FSAE Engine Stand (In progress)

Overview
CU’s Formula SAE team designs, builds, and races a formula-style car every year. On the IC powertrain subteam, I’m working on the tools and models the team needs to work on the engine more easily.

What I’m doing
I’m rebuilding the team’s engine CAD model from a new 3D scan so it’s accurate and easy to work with, then designing an engine stand around it. The stand needs to hold the engine rigidly, but be able to rotate, and leave the underside open so the team can work on it after pulling it from the car.

Next steps
Finish the cleaned up engine model, develop stand concepts, and check the design with hand calcs and FEA before building.
